France, Russia and China, permanent members of the Council demanded the lifting of the Israeli blockade on Gaza and an independent investigation

France, Russia and China, permanent members of the Council demanded the lifting of the Israeli blockade on Gaza and an independent investigation on the tragedy, which left at least 10 dead and several dozens injured among the international activists that made up this fleet.

Israel’s traditional ally, the United States, didn’t specifically demand the end of the
blockade. Instead made a call for its softening and regretted the deaths, while the UK requested the lifting of the access to Gaza limitations.

According to a report delivered by UN deputy secretary for political affairs Oscar Fernández Taranco at least 6 Israeli troops were also wounded.

Palestinian sources said the death toll reaches 19 people and accused the Israeli troops of seizing the ships and preventing the aid from arriving into Palestinians handsAmong the Council’s non-permanent members Brazil expressed its consternation and demanded the end of the blockade which violates the international law, a motion backed by the Mexican representative, Claude Heller
Turkey, the country from where the fleet departed, call the incident a murder, and pointed out that a state that commits such crimes loses all legitimacy in the eyes of the international community.
